June 5, 2010 – The Journey Begins - Baltimore to Lexington, KY

Rain most of the day traveling west through the hills of WV and into KY across multiple Interstates. Lewis and Clark (my two beagles) seem to be taking to Life on the Road and are napping most of the time in the back seat of Dad’s truck. Was surprised to not see a giant baseball bat as we entered Lexington, but recalled that it’s actually a “Louisville Slugger”, so my disappointment was short-lived. We slept at the Bluegrass Inn, across from a store with a neon sign that simply said “Whiskey”. No doubt about what business they were in. This Whiskey place was opposite a KFC store that was closed due to fire damage. I figured that Kentucky Fried Chicken was SO popular in Kentucky that they had the cookers going full-blast 24/7 and finally, something just burned-out. Kentucky FIRED Chicken would be more like it.
